Despite the nosediving patronage of the United States, which used to be Nigeria’s highest buyer of crude oil, President Muhammadu Buhari has failed to use the opportunity he had to discuss with President Donald Trump about how trade in that sector could bounce back. Giving his reason for not making attend to persuade the country, Buhari said he “can’t tell the US what to do.”
When a reporter asked Buhari that, “The US import of crude oil from Nigeria has visibly gone down, did you discuss the need for the US to improve its import of crude from Nigeria (during their meeting)?”
Buhari’s response was, “No. I can’t tell the US what to do. Luckily for us, we have got market for our crude oil. But the progress made by the US in technology is certainly frightening for our mono economy.”
“I hope technology will allow them to use our crude for its quality from petrochemicals.”
Trump had lately voiced his unhappiness about how the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) has creating artificial prices for Brent crude.
