doctor, SSAUTHRIAI Threatens Strike Over Unfulfilled Agreement
The Senior Staff Association of Universities’ Teaching Hospitals Research Institutes and Associated Institutions (SSAUTHRIAI) has threatened to resume their suspended strike following government’s failure to implement their March agreement.
This was contained in a four-point communiqué issued after its council meeting at the National Horticultural Research Institute (NIHORT), Ibadan and made available to newsmen in Kaduna.
Sectorial Chairman, Comrade Felix Uwadiae and Secretary, Comrade Ademola Olajire signed the statement, which said; “The council appreciates Mr. President’s efforts in fighting corruption and terrorism.
However, the council implores the Federal Government to look into the issues of herdsmen killings and kidnapping in parts of the country, especially the abduction of Chibok and Dapchi schools girls. The Council also urged the chief executive officers of research institutes to implement the contents of the circular with immediate effect.
Meanwhile, activities at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba, Lagos, have been crippled since the nationwide strike embarked upon by the Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) three weeks ago. The strike had resulted to the discharging of some patients at the hospital, as only doctors were left to attend to the remaining patients, who are often in very critical condition. The administrative offices, hospital’s record section, pharmacies, laboratories and all the clinics were shut.
