The younger brother of embattled Dino Melaye, senator representing Kogi west, Samuel Melaye, has been remanded in Kuje prison, Abuja on the orders of a chief magistrate’s court in Mpape. He had been arraigned for alleged criminal conspiracy.
Samuel, and three others were charged helping Senator Dino Melaye to escape from Police custody. The names of the other three were given as; Amaefula David, Pius Inyang and Mohammed Wazari.
It would be recalled that Melaye had jumped out of a moving police vehicle taking him to a court in Kogi state.
He was being taken to court over allegations that he supplied arms to some arrested crime suspects.
The police vehicle conveying Melaye’s was said to have been ambushed by the some suspected thugs.
They have since charged them with criminal conspiracy, obstruction of public servant from performing his lawful duties, abatement and assault on police officers.
Despite pleading not guilty to the charges, the appeal by their defence counsel, Nkem Okoro, was rejected after it was opposed by the police.
The presiding magistrate, therefore ordered that the four be remanded in Kuje prison until Monday, April 30, the adjourned date for ruling on the bail application.
