A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja yesterday rejected an objection filed by the former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki and subsequently ordered that the arms and ammunition that were said to have been recovered from his Abuja residence be brought and displayed in court.
The former NSA is standing trial on charges of money laundering and illegal possession of firearms.
The prosecution had opened its case by calling a witness, however the trial stalled at some point when the initial trial judge, Justice Adeniyi Ademola withdrew from the case.
Upon the reassignment of the case to Justice Ahmed Mohammed, the trial resumed before another judge and the prosecution called its first witness. The witness, Williams Obiara, an operative of Department of State Service (DSS), had his face hidden with a mask, so the court audience won’t identify him -for safety reasons.
The prosecution lawyer, Oladipupo Okpeseyi (SAN), led Obiora in evidence, who described how a search was conducted on Dasuki’s home in 2015 and how weapons were recovered from the building.
He added that on the order of the Director General of DSS in 2015, he was part of the team that searched the house of Dasuki after intelligence report suggested that weapons injurious to national security were in his residence.
Armed with a search warrant, they arrived at the Asokoro house under the leadership of Ali Burara. He said they met a number of armed soldiers, who prevented the team from accessing the premises.
He added that they had to wait for another three hours, before a military truck arrived to take the soldiers away, thereby granting the access to search the building.
Obiora said the team recovered some weapons and also recorded same on the search warrant
