UEFA have now released the fixtures for the 2018/2019 qualifying round.Celtic will head to Armenia to play FC Alashkert in the first round of Champions League qualifying.
Brendan Rodgers’ side go into the qualifying rounds one stage earlier this year, which means they’ll have to get through eight games if they’re to make it to the group stags.
And the first stop on the road to the groups for a third consecutive year is in the city of Yerevan – the capital of Armenia.
They’ll play Alashkert – who are going into the competition after winning their third title in a row.
Alashkert were involved in qualifying last year, making it through this first round by beating FC Santa Coloma, but they exited in the second round after a defeat to BATE Borisov over two legs.
The Armenians would have been hoping to get to at least that stage this season, but drawing Celtic is a significant challenge for them and you’d have to instill Rodgers’ team as big favorites going into the tie.
The first leg will be played away on either July 10th or 11th before the second leg returns to Glasgow on either July 17th or 18th.
